Tanghalan UPLB Samasining, in coordination with the UPLB Ugnayan ng Pahinungod and Dumingag Organic Culture office, conducted a three-day workshop last June 22 to 24 at Dumingag, Zamboanga.

Prof. Joey Ting of the Department of Humanities led the Tanghalan UPLB delegation in Zamboanga. The rest of the team included Prof. Rudyard Pesimo, Prof. Nikulous Aranas, Neil Raagas, Sarina Sasaki, KC Abila, Clark Banaag, Pj Ibasco, Harold Medina and Jillian Santos.

Dumingag Mayor Nacianceno Pacalioga Jr. requested the three-day workshop for the advancement of the organic culture in their organic farming town through theater arts. Teachers and students from the local school attended the event.

The first day was spent for getting acquainted, doing warm-ups and giving a brief run-through of the events that would take place in the next few days. Meanwhile the participants spent the second day for rehearsals of their culminating performance that was to take place on the final day.

According to Prof. Ting, the participants were enthusiastic to learn from their activities.

An elated and passionate group showcased their performance with all their hearts, turning it into a performance to remember,” he added.

To sum up their experience from their mission in Dumingag, Prof. Ting claimed that they gained very positive feedback from their partner institution, the mayor and their participants.

We all headed back home in the afternoon carrying more than what we had at first – not just because of the tokens or the sacks of rice or the gifts or the souvenirs, but also because of the experience and the love of the Dumingagnons,” he said. DMSoriano
