UPLB Pahinungod conducts 20th Anniversary Activities

Exhibit on Education

An exhibit about education was launched to be viewed by UPLB students, faculty, and staff as a part of the UPLB Ugnayan ng Pahinungod's 20th anniversary celebration. Two panels were allotted to give an overview on the educational status and issues faced by the country like K+12 and Reading. While the two other panels showcased the different programs conducted by Pahinungod that integrated volunteerism to the enhancement of education such as Reading Enhancement and Appreciation Development Program (READ), Environmental Awareness Program (EAP), Affirmative Action Program (AAP), Immersion-Mission (IM) program, and Teachers' Training Program (TTP).

Dr. Oscar Zamora, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, delivered the opening remarks during the short program. While Engr. Clyde Angelo Bisares gave notes on the exhibit and Pahinungod Director Prof. Katrina Ross Tan gave the closing remarks. Deans and chairs from different colleges were also present in the event.


Brownbag Series on Volunteering for Disaster Response-Relief and Rehab

As a part of the UPLB Ugnayan ng Pahinungod's 20th anniversary celebration, the third Brownbag session was held last February 27. With the theme "Volunteering for Disaster Response-Relief and Rehab", it was attended by 30 participants consisted by UPLB students and Pahinungod volunteers and alumni.

Cherrys O. Abrigo, a Pahinungod alumna, and John Cynex R. Sollorano, a UPLB student, served as the resource speakers for the event. The speakers asked the participants to introduce themselves, set their expectations, and share their experiences on volunteerism. Sollorano mostly shared how one can volunteer as students while Abrigo focused on where and how to volunteer while working. Abrigo also highlighted the importance of starting helping in one's vicinity and having the determination, passion, and time to pursue volunteer work.

Sports Fest

A sports fest which aims to develop camaraderie and sportsmanship among the volunteers and staff and engage volunteers to sports and physical activities was conducted. The opening of the sportsfest was held on Friday, 4-7pm and the sports fest proper was held on Saturday, 8-1pm. Philippine games, novelty games, and major sports were played during the said event.
