The UPLB Ugnayan ng Pahinungód participated at the 113th Foundation Day Trade Fair of the University of the Philippines Los Banos. Four partner communities of Pahinungod, namely: the PWD Federation of Los Baños, the Alabat Island Farmers Producers Cooperative (AIFPC) from Quezon, the Samahan ng mga Kababaihan ng Paete and the Rural Microenterprise Promotion Program (RUMEPP) from Liliw, Laguna were invited to promote and market their local products.
For the first week of the fair, the PWD (Persons with Disabilities) Federation of Los Baños showcased a variety of products, ranging from food and home made finds such as banana chips, cheesy corn, achara, bottled alamang, peanut butter, ponytails, doormats, potholders, and bags.
Meanwhile, the AIFPC of Alabat, Quezon featured produce from the island, some of which were: coco sugar, virgin coconut oil, lipote wine, tablea, cassava crackers, Alabat vinegar, and chili powder. AIFPC is a new partner community of UPLB Ugnayan ng Pahinungód which aims to promote the livelihood of small farmers from Alabat Island.
The Samahan ng mga Kababaihan ng Paete, Laguna presented the pride of their town by exhibiting different paper mâché handicrafts, tissue boxes, figurines, and household items made of wood in their booth during the second week of the fair. Paete, Laguna is known for its woodcarvings and paper mâché handicrafts.
Lastly, the Rural Microenterprise Promotion Program (RUMEPP) of Liliw brought the notable footwears of Liliw, Laguna closer to the fair goers. Different colors and styles of house slippers, casual and formal sandals, and espadrilles are just some of the footwear that were displayed in their booth.
With this initiative, small and local groups were able to establish networks and promote their businesses.
The Trade Fair was organized by the UPLB Business Affairs Office and was held from February 28 to March 11, 2022, at the College of Development Communication Parking Lot.
